BNP Standing Committee member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed commented that many of the advisors of the interim government want to remain in power for life. He said, this government was formed by public opinion, by the will of the people. But as days go by, we are slowly getting frustrated.
He said, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is the country's hero, his name is worldwide. The face of Bangladesh abroad, we could not have found a more qualified person at this moment. He (Yunus) doesn't even want to be in power, he was offered earlier too, didn't stay. He still doesn't seem to be enjoying himself very much. But I have to say one thing, his team selection is not right. Many of those he took with him wanted to stay in power for life. Maybe you can't express it, but it feels like it.
Hafiz said these things at the discussion meeting titled 'Mass Uprising Public Aspirations: Recommendations for State Repair' organized by Bangladesh Labor Party at the National Press Club of the capital on Tuesday.
Criticizing the government, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said that Professor Yunus has assigned four or five ministries to each adviser. They especially have no experience. He has to think about this. He appointed good candidates from non-political persons. If necessary, take more people from students who have protested against discrimination. But they have played in the Awami League team in the past, we don't want to see them in the cabinet.
Questioning how much time it would take for the reforms, Major Hafeez said that the notification of the six commissions that have been made has taken more than six days, which should not take more than two days. Slowly common people are getting frustrated. Fallen energy wants to come back. Even Ansar forces want to queue, such a weak government.
Pointing out that the main task of the interim government is to transfer power to an elected government, he said that the government talks a lot, but one thing is not heard from their mouths that when the elections will be held. When will the election commission be formed? Election Commission should be formed with non-political and knowledgeable people. If the law has to be changed by ordinance, it can be done quickly.
Stating that Awami League has no right to do politics in Bangladesh, he said the damage they have done to Bangladesh. After December 16, 1971, we thought we would get a beautiful country. Democracy will always be in the bosom of Bangladesh, there will be no discrimination. Human dignity, equality, social justice will be established immediately. But as time passed, the spirit of the liberation war slowly drifted away. We got a one-party state.
Chairman of Bangladesh Labor Party Dr. Mostafizur Rahman Iran said that it is necessary to reform the advisory council to repair the country. The ghosts of the murderer Hasina are engaging in inaction to question the government by keeping Dr. Yunus in front. We want reform of political and electoral culture. Fundamental reforms are the responsibility of the elected government of the people. Therefore, the same person cannot serve as President, Prime Minister and Member of Parliament more than 2 times in a row. Introducing an upper chamber legislature in the national parliament for the purpose of managing the state with the coordination of experts. Declaring it illegal for government officials to take part in elections within 5 years of their retirement. The winning party or coalition in the national elections must secure 51% of the votes cast in order to form the government, or else hold fresh elections.
Bangladesh Labor Party Secretary General Khandaker Mirazul Islam highlighted 23 points of state reform in the round table meeting moderated by Advocate Zohra Khatun Jui. Advisor to BNP Chairperson Zainul Abdin Farooq, Professor Dr. participated in the discussion. Sukomal Barua, Chairman of Janipop Professor Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah. Elbert P. Costa, the acting president of the former youth party, Maulana Shah Nesharul Haq of the Ulama party, SM Yusuf Ali, the vice chairman of the Labor Party, Nurul Islam Siam, the joint secretary general, Europe Labor Party coordinator.
