On October 15, 1985, the roof of the TV room of Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University collapsed in a tragic accident, killing 40 people including students and employees of the hall. Since this incident, the day is observed as mourning day of Dhaka University.

On Tuesday (October 15) on the occasion of the Mourning Day of the University, the leaders and activists of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal paid their respects at October Memorial at Jagannath Hall around 8 am.
Dhaka University Student Dal President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas, General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon, Senior Vice President Masum Billah, Senior Joint General Secretary Nashir Uddin Shaon, Organizational Secretary Noor Alam Bhuiyan and more than a hundred leaders of the university were present.
