498 tons of green pepper entered Bangladesh from India at the rate of Tk 96 per kg

Jumbangla Desk: 498 tons of green chillies were imported from India through Jessore's Benapole port in two days to reduce the price. Out of this, 386 metric tons were imported in 56 trucks yesterday and 112 metric tons in 12 Indian vehicles on Tuesday.

Raw chilli has been imported at the rate of Tk 60 per kg. Apart from this, customs duty of Tk 36 per kg should be paid to the organization. As a result, the price of imported raw chilli fell to Tk 96 per kg.

Benapole land port director Rashedul Sajib Nazir confirmed this information to the media.

It is known that 28 importers including Fruits Agency, M/s Allah Dan, M/s Sumi Enterprises have imported these green chillies from India.

According to the port sources, the car loaded with pepper left the port area earlier this evening after paying the customs duty. After being released from Benapole port, these raw chillies will go to different parts of the country including Karwan Bazar in Dhaka. Traders believe that the price of raw chillies may decrease.


On the other hand, the price of green pepper has decreased in the Benapole market due to the news of importation. In the space of one day, the product has been sold in the retail market with a reduction of Tk 50 to Tk 80.

On Tuesday, raw chillies were sold at Tk 400 per kg in the market.

A buyer named Razia Sultana said that the market price has decreased by Tk 50 to Tk 80 per kg due to the news of the import of green chillies. Failure to control the market led to price hikes without reason due to the manipulation of merchant syndicates.

Even a day ago, raw chillies were sold at the rate of 700 to 800 taka per kg. Traders said that mainly due to the recent floods, the prices of vegetables are increasing. The most talked about of these is green chillies.
