Science and Technology Desk: Apple placed two old model iPods and one iPhone in the obsolete or canceled list. The company is withdrawing technology support for iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle and iPhone 6 models. From now on these devices will no longer receive Apple's latest technology and security updates.

Iphone

Apple's iPod is primarily for listening to music, audio books, and watching some music videos. In 2015, Apple introduced new color options for the seventh generation iPod Nano and the fourth generation iPod Shuffle. Those models are now on the discontinued list. In 2017, Apple completely discontinued the iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle.

Apple lists a device as 'obsolete' after seven years of discontinuing sales. When a device becomes obsolete, it can no longer be repaired at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. The only exception is—changing the MacBook battery. Apple gives the opportunity to change the battery of this device for up to 10 years.

So devices on the Obsolete list cannot be repaired in case of a technical fault. Also, there is a risk of cyber attack on these devices.
Apple iPhone 6 model has also been included in this list. The previous company had declared the iPhone 6 Plus, the larger model of this series, as obsolete. However, the relatively smaller iPhone 6 model was resold in select countries for a long time.

In addition, Apple has included the 2017 12-inch MacBook and the sixth generation iPad in the 'vintage' product list. After five years of discontinuing a device, Apple lists it as 'vintage'. But Apple repairs the vintage product. But it depends on the availability of required parts.
