Jumbangla Desk: I wanted to earn money and show my father a good doctor. To educate younger brothers in good education. With this desire, Miraj ran from the border district Lalmonirhat to the country's capital, Dhaka.

But this desire, this dream has disappeared to the ground of Mirage joining the anti-discrimination student movement. I am talking about Mirazul Islam Miraj (21) of Bargharia village in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat.

Miraj joined the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5 in front of the Jatrabari police station in the fish hide area like others. His cousin Mazedul Islam (28), a factory worker, was with Miraj in that procession.

There was an intense procession. But suddenly the police suddenly opened fire on the procession. And in that shot Miraj and his cousin Majedul got shot and fell on the road. In this situation, the locals rescued them and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. They were transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital when there was lack of proper treatment and money. Later Miraj's cousin Majedul Islam recovered a lot with treatment. On the other hand, the bullet was removed from Miraj's body through surgery, but in the end, he could not survive.

Last August 8 (Thursday) at 10.30 am, this dreamer boy died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Miraj is the eldest son of Md. Abdus Salam (45) and Mohsena Begum (40) of Bargharia area of Mahishkhocha union of Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district. Miraj has two younger brothers named Majbaul Islam (17) and Md. Sirajul Islam (14). Mezbaul studies in class IX and Sirajul in class VIII. Miraj's father is ill.

Miraj was a student of Mahishkhocha Polytechnic High School. He passed SSC in 2021 and went to Jatrabari area of Dhaka with his family to earn money. Miraj's family lived there in a rented house. Later, Miraj was admitted to higher secondary class in Dania Model School and College, Dhaka.

Apart from studying due to family problems, he worked in a local mobile recharge and development shop at Matuail Rashid Bagh in Jatrabari Thana area of Dhaka.

The whole family was supported by Miraj's income, including the treatment of his sick father and the education of his two younger brothers. Miraj and her father also took a loan of 3 to 4 lakh rupees for his father's treatment. Miraj used to work in a shop along with studying to keep up with the family. Miraj is described by the villagers as a humble, polite yet defiant youth.

Miraj's father Abdus Salam said, 'After the death of our son, each day is like a year.'

He also said, I was a CNG driver. Later I saw a doctor due to frequent illness. The doctor initially thinks it is cancer. More testing is needed. It will cost a lot of money. But our only earning son is gone. His death has broken the wheel of my entire family's income.

In response to the question whether he received financial help, Miraj's father said, yes, he received financial help. District BNP has given 1 lakh rupees to my family. Jamaat-e-Islam donated Tk 2 lakh and (Navy) Headquarters Dhaka donated another Tk 1 lakh.

He also said, I want to see all the mothers who are involved in this murder under justice, including my son. I have a request to the present government in this regard.

Miraj's mother, Mohsena Begum, said, "I can't keep my eyes open thinking that the pieces of my liver will not come back."

He also said, if the government keeps an eye on our family and helps us, then our poor family may turn around again. Maybe my husband will be healthy again.

Ashraf Ali, member of Mahishkhocha Union Parishad, said, I myself saw Miraj's body. I could not hold back my tears. The family is now completely destitute after losing the only earner.

Md. Rabiul Islam, Acting Headmaster of Mahish Khocha Multipurpose High School, said that Mirazul Islam Miraj was a student of this institution. His behavior was very good. We want justice for the murder of this talented boy.

Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate HM Raqib Haider said, "We will make all possible arrangements for the government's support to the families who have suffered in the anti-discrimination student movement."
