Jumbangla Desk: Four people, including women and children, were killed on the spot when a truck hit a CNG-powered autorickshaw standing on the road in Mirsrai, Chittagong. This accident took place at the head of Baratakia Khaiachra Karuna road of Mirsarai upazila on Dhaka-Chittagong highway today, Tuesday (October 15). Three others were injured in the incident. One of them is in critical condition.
The deceased are Kajal Rekha (25), Nurjahan (50), Shirina (25), Nihat (7 months). They all belong to the same family. Three others were seriously injured in this accident. However, the names of the injured are not yet known.
Amena Khatun, a relative of the deceased, said that they came to Khaiyachhara Jharna area from Sitakunda. They died on the spot when a truck hit them from behind when the CNG-powered autorickshaw stopped at the mouth of the fountain.
After receiving the information, the Highway Police and Fire Service and Civil Defense personnel recovered the bodies.
According to police and eyewitness sources, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw from Baradarogat was going to a relative's house in East Khaiachra area.
Khayachra Jharna stood at the head of the road before dropping off the passengers when a speeding truck loaded with corn hit it from behind and the truck overturned and fell into the ditch. At that time, the autorickshaw overturned and four people, including a woman and a child, were killed on the spot. Three more injured people were rescued and taken to the hospital.
Imam Hossain Patwari, station officer of Mirsrai Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that four bodies including a child were recovered after receiving information.
