When the workers of JMI Company Ltd. started blocking the road from 8 am on Wednesday (October 16) for their 21-point demand including increase in salary and allowances, a long traffic jam was created in both the Dhaka-bound and Comilla-bound lanes of the highway. Hundreds of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road till the report was written at 10 am.

Workers' demands Two days ago, a sick worker asked the company for leave. The worker died due to lack of medical care due to lack of leave.

Some of the women workers of the factory are angry and said that people may get sick. Even if we ask for leave hundreds of times when we are sick, the company does not want to give us leave. We cannot stand by the danger of family relatives due to not getting leave due to family illness.

Among the agitating workers, Abu Hanif said, the company authorities are treating us inhumanely. They do not care about any government regulations. Workers are forced to work overtime. If you are sick, you are not allowed to go to the hospital. Forced by various reasons, we have entered the field with 21-point demands.

When contacted, the manager of the company, Masum Mia, said, 'I am not in a position to speak at the moment. Several officials from our side were beaten up while talking to the workers. We are trying to defuse the situation'.

Ghazaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbubur Rahman said, after the road blockade, I rushed to the spot and tried to calm down the workers. Despite assurances from the owners to resolve the matter by talking to the protesting workers, the workers continue to block the road and protest.
