Jumbangla Desk: Despite the meeting with the District Commissioner, the traders of Pahartali egg market in Chittagong city have closed both the shop and the shop. The large wholesale market of eggs has been closed for the third day on the pretext of non-supply of new eggs.

Traders and traders say that no new eggs have arrived at their location. It is not possible to sell the eggs bought earlier, at a higher price, at a lower price. Due to which they closed the shop.

On Wednesday (October 16), it was seen that there are 15 egg stalls in Pahartali market. There are 30 small and big wholesale shops. All of these are closed. A couple of wholesale shops are open but sales are closed. Shops that are open are also selling at higher rates. These shops are selling 100 eggs for Tk 1400, which is Tk 14 per piece.

Humayun Kabir, an egg dealer in Pahartali market, said, 'It is not possible to control the egg market by determining the prices of producers, wholesalers and retailers only. If there is no media, eggs cannot be collected from different places and hatched. So they have to determine the purchase and sale price.'

When asked about the reason why most of the shops were closed without opening as promised, Abdul Sukkur Liton, general secretary of Chittagong Egg Traders Artdar Cooperative Society, said, 'Now we don't have enough eggs to sell to everyone. And what is there, the purchase price is high. How long to keep the shop open with a loss? So most of the shops have been closed.

Consumers will not get eggs at government prices

Abdul Shukkur Liton, general secretary of Chittagong egg traders Artaddar Cooperative Society, thinks that it is never possible to sell eggs at the government price. He said that although the government has decided the wholesale and retail prices of producers, there are many more traders. They have costs. And without them it is not possible to provide eggs. As a result, consumers will never get eggs at government prices.

'Yesterday also we bought eggs for 12 taka 50 paisa. Today they agreed to give us eggs for 12 rupees. Then how can consumers get eggs for 11 taka 87 paise, asked this business leader.

In response to a question, he said, 'At the consumer level, eggs will be available for 13 taka in three-four days. Although the shops and shops are closed today, we expect to start selling in full swing from tomorrow.'

When asked, Deputy Director (Chittagong Division) of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, Mohammad Faiz Ullah said, 'The middlemen are actually the middlemen. They are trying to create a crisis in the market by closing all the shops at once. We are monitoring the issues, and conducting regular operations.'

Chittagong Additional District Magistrate Syed Mahbubul Haque said, 'Artdars of Chittagong have complained against some Tangail businessmen between farmers and Artdars in the meeting. Basically because they keep the price high, dealers and wholesalers have to buy and sell at higher prices.

Stating that the Deputy Commissioner is trying to solve the complaint, he also said, 'Our DC Sir has spoken to the DC Sir of Tangail. Operation is being conducted in Tangail today. We are assisting the businessmen to ensure the purchase and sale at the rate fixed by the government. They also hope that the government will buy and sell at the fixed price.

Additional price in retail too

The price of eggs has not decreased even though some shops have opened in Pahartali market of Arat Nagar, the biggest market for eggs in Chittagong. Each piece of egg is being sold at retail at about Tk 4 more than the rate set by the government. Although the buyers are dissatisfied with this, the sellers are giving the excuse of supply shortage.
