Elephant hit by a train

The information was confirmed on Wednesday (October 16) by the Departmental Forest Officer (DFO) of Chittagong Region of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation. Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury.

He said that a relief train rescued the elephant injured by the train from Chunati area of ​​Lohagara upazila on Tuesday morning. Later, the elephant was taken to the veterinary hospital of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Safari Park in Dulahajara of Chakaria upazila.

He further said that a five-member medical board was constituted to treat the elephant. Despite the efforts of the wildlife management and nature conservation department, the elephant could not be saved. The elephant died around 4 pm.

In this regard, Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Chittagong Region. Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury said, "The elephant has been buried inside the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Safari Park in Dullahazara."


On October 13 at 8:30 pm, the elephant was seriously injured after being hit by a train at the Elephant Overpass (Elephant Crossing Path) in the Chunti Wildlife Sanctuary on the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar railway. The forest department then rescued the elephant and treated it. Later, a five-member medical board headed by professor Vivek Chandra Sutra, head of the Department of Medicine and Surgery of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, was formed to treat the elephant.
