Jumbangla Desk: In October 2017, head coach Hathurusinghe left Bangladesh. But in late 2017, he sent his resignation via e-mail midway through a visit to Bangladesh. But it was said that he will be the coach till the 2019 ODI World Cup. Such abdication was not at all consistent with professionalism. Cricket gives everything back - it gave Hathurusinghe the same.

Hathurusingha

He sent the mail to leave the post of Bangladesh coach in October. In October, he received a humiliating resignation from the same post in another mail. Midway through the South Africa series of the service, this time just before the South Africa series. Call it cyclical—it's natural to say.

Returned again in January 2023. What a great start this year! Despite losing the ODI series, Bangladesh defeated the then world champion England in the T20 series.

Fairly good in T20s, bad in ODIs - this trend has been maintained throughout Hathuru's second tenure. Bangladesh had a forgettable performance in the 2023 Asia Cup and ODI World Cup.

Hathurusinghe is leaving Mirpur Sherebangla Stadium. Today was his last day as the coach of Bangladesh.

Then this year, Bangladesh reached the Super Eight in the T20 World Cup. However, Bangladesh's performance in the West Indies World Cup could not impress the fans. Before this, the loss of T20 series against the USA will be a black mark in Bangladesh's cricket history.

Between Hathurusingha's first and second terms, there were two head coaches of Bangladesh - England's Steve Rhodes and South Africa's Russell Domingo. Bangladesh's winning percentage under Rhodes is 51.11% in three editions, 42.34% under Domingo.

After the World Cup, Bangladesh made the rare feat of thrashing Pakistan on their own soil, and again threw that good feeling in the tour of India. After losing badly in both the Test and T20 series, the news came that Hathuru is being fired by BCB.

He came to Hathurusingh for the first time in 2014. That time was one of the worst days in Bangladesh cricket history. June 17 was a date to remember. Bangladesh lost India by 105 runs in the one-day match that came down to 41 overs at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. In chase of runs, Bangladesh all out for only 58 runs. India's medium pacer Stuart Binny took 6 wickets with 4 runs that day.

It was Chandika Hathurusingh's second match as Bangladesh coach. That Hathuru left his post as the most successful coach in the history of Bangladesh national team after three and a half years.

The period in between should be called the golden period of Bangladesh in international cricket. In 2015, Bangladesh reached the quarter-finals of the ODI World Cup under this Sri Lankan coach. This was followed by three successive ODI series wins at home against Pakistan, India and South Africa.

The success in the first term also came in Tests, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka in Colombo in their 100th Test. Hathuru also won Tests against England and Australia on the spin-friendly wicket of Mirpur.

Bangladesh gets a chance in the 2017 Champions Trophy by advancing in the ODI rankings. In the tournament held in England and Wales, Mashrafe's team reached the semi-finals. Bangladesh also gets a direct chance in the 2019 World Cup thanks to being ahead in the ranking.
