Shooting in Khaleda Zia's public meeting, police complaint after 10 years

President of Basan Thana BNP. Tanveer Siraj filed the complaint at GMP's Basan police station on Tuesday afternoon as the plaintiff.


It is mentioned in the complaint that on December 27, 2014, BNP organized a public meeting at Alam Govt College ground in Bhawal Badr, Gazipur. BNP chairperson, former prime minister and opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia was supposed to be present as the chief guest. But on the orders of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, about 200 activists of Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League along with former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, former mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Jahangir Alam, former DB chief (then SP of Gazipur) Harun Or Rashid and some police officers , with iron rods and sharp weapons prevented BNP activists from participating in public gatherings. At that time, they chased thousands of BNP leaders and activists who came to the public meeting and opened fire at random. They cut and beat the BNP leaders and workers with sharp chapatis with the intention of killing them and inflicted bloody injuries. They attacked and vandalized the chair, table, microphone of the meeting built for the public meeting. The assailants chanted insulting slogans on the name of national leader Begum Khaleda Zia and ransacked the public meeting.


He also mentioned in the complaint that when he went to file a statement in the incident at the then Joydevpur police station, the officer in charge purposely did not accept it.


Rahedul Islam, OC of Basan police station of GMP, said that the complaint has been received. Legal action will be taken after investigation in this regard.
