It is said in the circular that the Bangladesh Navy is always performing its responsibility to ensure the protection of Bangladesh's maritime boundaries and marine resources. Navy ships are conducting various operations to prevent any kind of intrusion and illegal activities in Bangladesh's territorial waters in the Bay of Bengal. In this continuation, the Bangladesh Navy ship Shahid Akhtar Uddin, engaged in Operation Eradication, intercepted two foreign-flagged fishing trawlers deep in the Bay of Bengal during regular patrol on Tuesday (15 October 2024) afternoon.


Bangladesh Navy's warship BNS Akhtar Uddin has been deployed in the Bay of Bengal since October 14, 2024 under 'Operation Nirmool'. During routine patrolling, the vessel's radar detects the presence of a suspicious trawler. Data analysis of the two trawlers identified them as foreign flagged trawlers. At that time, when the two trawlers tried to escape, the Navy ship Shahid Akhtar Uddin chased them and managed to arrest the two fishing trawlers within the territorial waters of Bangladesh.

The two seized trawlers had a total of 31 crew members. All of them are foreign nationals. Later, the two arrested fishing trawlers were brought to Patuakhali and the arrested fishing trawlers and fishermen were handed over to Kalapara police station for taking appropriate legal action.

It is to be noted that to prevent any kind of foreign intrusion and illegal activities in the waters of Bangladesh, 13 ships of the Navy including Shahid Akhtar Uddin are in the sea, 10 ships in the river area and maritime patrol aircraft are continuing to monitor with great efficiency and professionalism. This naval operation will continue to protect the fisheries resources and our waters in the Bay of Bengal.
