hair fall
1. Androgenetic alopecia or hereditary
androgenetic alopecia is genetic. Men with this condition tend to lose hair from the top of their heads, and women with the condition usually experience thinning hair on the scalp. The risk of developing the condition increases with age, but it can start at any time after puberty. Many women may develop this condition after menopause. Hormones play a role in this.
2.
Estrogen levels decrease during pregnancy or post-pregnancy . This can lead to excessive hair loss. This type of hair loss is a temporary condition and usually resolves within a year or so.
3. Telogen Effluvium
Healthy hair follicles go through four stages of growth. Hair follicles push the hair and it grows during the anagen phase. Hair growth slows down in the catagen phase and normal hair loss begins in the telogen phase, increasing in the exogen phase. Telogen effluvium is a condition where the hair is in the telogen phase of the cycle. This results in more hair loss than usual. Some possible causes of telogen effluvium are childbirth, surgery, severe stress, rapid weight loss, thyroid or certain medications.
Telogen effluvium is usually a temporary condition that resolves over time, but it is important to consult a doctor to determine the cause. If the doctor suspects that a drug is damaging the hair, a lower dose or a change of drug is possible.
4. Anagen Effluvium
Anagen Effluvium causes rapid shedding of large amounts of hair during the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle. This can lead to hair fall from the head as well as other parts of the body including eyebrows and eyelids. Possible causes of anagen effluvium include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, fungal infections, or certain diseases.
5. Alopecia Areata
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition that causes sudden hair loss. The immune system attacks the hair follicle along with other healthy parts of the body. Scalp hair, eyebrows and eyelashes can fall out due to this condition.
6. Traction Alopecia
Traction alopecia is hair loss due to tight hair ties. Excessive pulling can cause hair to break and become loose. Tight buns or ponytails or extensions can cause this condition.
7. Medications
Some medications can cause hair loss as a side effect. Examples of such medications include certain types of acne medications, antifungals, antidepressants, beta-blockers, cholesterol-lowering medications, hormonal medications, or thyroid medications.
8. Birth Control Pills
Use of birth control pills can cause hair loss in some cases. When choosing birth control pills, it is important to choose a type that has a low androgen index. It helps reduce the risk of hair fall. Other forms of birth control that affect hormones, such as implants, can cause hair loss. The American Hair Loss Association says that those with a genetic risk of hair loss should choose a non-hormonal type of birth control pill.
9. Nutrient Deficiency
Inadequate levels of biotin cause hair breakage and shedding. If you don't eat enough vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables, it becomes more difficult for the body to absorb iron. Iron deficiency increases the rate of hair loss. As advised by experts, you can reduce the rate of hair loss by eating nutritious foods or taking supplements.
