Own Correspondent: Money has been laundered anonymously from United Commercial Bank (UCB), which was seized with state aid. The bank's newly formed board chairman Sharif Zaheer has sought the assistance of ACC and BFIU to recover the money.
After the meeting with the Governor of Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday (October 16), he said, '3-4 billion (300-400 crore) dollars of depositors have disappeared from the banks. This irregularity must be acknowledged. After that, initiatives should be taken to fill these voids by restructuring the capital. Banks are institutions where there is no way to get away with irregularities. We want those who have committed irregularities to be properly punished. People of the country should see their punishment.'
It is known that during the previous Awami League government, a lot of money was given as loans to the relatives of the top officials of UCB Bank and anonymously. A major part of this loan is channeled through hundi. This time, UCB has taken the initiative to bring back that money.

The bank officials involved in the irregularities have been identified. But their number is not much. A separate recovery team has been formed. The management authority has also undertaken audit firm audit activities.
Meanwhile, after joining the new chairman Sharif Zahir, the confidence of the customers is returning in the bank. 409 crore deposits have come in three days. The customer is also returning the loan amount.
