Jumbangla Desk: The presence of microplastics in the body of newborns has been detected. Microplastics also exist in the lungs, heart, liver, kidneys and brain. A recently published study revealed the issue.
The study was conducted by Rutgers University in the United States. They experimentally injected rats with a microplastic called polyamide-12 into pregnant mothers. The presence of these microplastics is detected by examining their bodies after birth.
Scientists think that the same thing can happen in humans. During pregnancy, microplastics can enter the fetus from the mother's body through the placenta. However, it is not yet certain whether it will remain in the child's body cells for a long time.
The research, published in the journal 'Science of the Total Environment', opens up a new dimension of current environmental problems.
