Saiful Islam, Manikganj: Four officials of Manikganj rural electricity office have been taken into custody by the joint forces for keeping the electricity connection off and following the black out schedule. Later, after three and a half hours of power outage, the situation was brought under control and electricity was restored in the district.

 

On Thursday (October 17) at 11 o'clock, electricity supply was stopped in the entire district and a black out program was observed at the Muljan Pallividyut office premises of Sadar Upazila. Later, with the intervention of joint forces, electricity supply was started in the entire district around 2:30 pm.

The four officials of rural electricity taken into army custody are - Manikganj Rural Electricity Office AGM (Administration) Rajibul Hasan, AGM (EMC) Md Hasib Uddin, AGM Gias Uddin Khan Shakeel and Harirampur Rural Electricity Office DGM Samiul Kabir. Under their leadership, all the officers and employees of the rural electricity office stopped the electricity and carried out the program.

 


It has been reported that Palli Vidyut Samiti shut down electricity in the entire district in protest against the removal of 20 officials of Palli Vidyut from their jobs on charges of corruption. The rural electricity officials-employees held a protest program by shutting down the electricity to demand that the dismissed officials be retained in their posts. After receiving the information, the Deputy Commissioner's office repeatedly requested that the electricity supply was not activated, so the joint forces and the Sadar Thana police went to the spot at around 1:30 p.m. and stationed themselves at the rural electricity office to control the situation. Meanwhile, four officials of the Rural Electricity Office, who led the program by shutting down the electricity, were taken into the custody of the army for questioning. With the help of army, police, RAB, district administration, electricity supply was activated in the entire district after three and a half hours at around 2:30 pm. However, the residents of Manikganj suffered greatly due to the long-term power outage.

During the custody of electricity officials, Major Minhaj, Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Ali, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Wares Ali and Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Aman Ullah along with members of joint forces were present.

Manikganj Palli Vidyut Office General Manager (GM) Sultan Nachimul Haque called the official mobile several times but he did not receive the call. As a result, it was not possible to get his comments.
