Consumers affected by Palli Vidyut Samiti's black out program

Jumbangla Desk: A black out program has been announced in protest against the dismissal of five general managers of Palli Vidyut Samiti and the arrest of 10 members of the association.

As part of the programme, Comilla Palli Vidyut Samiti-1, Palli Vidyut Samiti-2, Palli Vidyut Samiti-3 and Palli Vidyut Samiti-4 were cut off on Thursday (October 17) from 12 noon to 6 pm.

The employees of Palli Vidyut Samiti Comilla gathered at the head office of Padua Bazar Bishwa Road. They protested by staying there since morning. Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and upazila administration people appeared at the spot to calm the situation. Army patrolling has been intensified to avoid any untoward incident.


Meanwhile, the residents of the area under the Palli Vidyut Samiti suffered due to the power cut since 12 noon. Thousands of people are in trouble due to lack of electricity for a long time. At the time of writing the report (6 pm) the power situation has normalized in many parts of the district.

Belal Hossain, a resident of Nangalkot upazila, said that there will be demands. So why bother people all the time? You have to get out of this place. Demand in the country now means harassment of the people.

Mostafizur Rahman, general manager of Comilla Palli Vidyut Samiti-2, said that the employees have given a 24-hour ultimatum. They have threatened to continue the program if the cases against the arrested are not withdrawn and the sacked GMs are not reinstated. Besides, the aggrieved have demanded the resignation of the chairman of the association.

Meanwhile, Palli Vidyut Samiti conducted black out program but power supply was normal in the areas covered by Comilla PDB.
