Sports Desk: In the end, the dream remained a dream, Shakib Al Hasan is not playing the farewell Test at home. This made Kanpur Test the last match of international Test career for Shakib.

Shakib is scheduled to return home tonight (October 17), but he is not returning home. After reaching Dubai, Shakib received a message from Bangladesh not to board the plane to come home until he got a green signal from Dhaka.

On the issue of Shakib not returning to the country, sports adviser Asif Mahmood Bhuiyan told the media that he has advised him not to come to the country to avoid an undesirable situation.

Meanwhile, about not being able to return to Bangladesh, Shakib said that he is unable to return to the country now for his own safety. Shakib said, I was supposed to return to the country... but now I may not be able to return due to security issues, for my own safety...

Before that match in Kanpur, Shakib announced his retirement from the longest format of international cricket. Expressed his desire to play his last Test in front of the country's audience in Dhaka. But that desire remains unfulfilled.

It is clear that the ongoing protests against Shakib's return to the country forced him to cancel his plans. A group of students burnt his effigy in Dhaka University on Wednesday. Another team had planned to write to the BCB requesting that Shakib not be allowed to enter the stadium.

This resistance of the students is due to Shakib's silence in the students' movement against the Sheikh Hasina government. The Sheikh Hasina-led administration tried to quell the protests using lethal force before falling and ultimately killing at least 1,000 people.

Despite being one of the most celebrated cricketers in the history of Bangladesh, Shakib remained silent during the agitation. This led to angry reactions among the agitators. They hoped that Shakib would stand by them. But Shakib, a member of parliament in the Awami League government, posted a funny picture of himself on social media during the agitation, which sparked outrage against him.

While announcing his retirement in Kanpur, Shakib also expressed apprehensions about his safety after returning home. He urged the board to ensure his safety during his stay in Dhaka. But the board and sports ministry reacted strongly. Asif Mahmood, one of the top organizers of the movement, is in charge of the Sports Ministry.

Later, the sports advisor said that they will ensure the security of Shakib when he returns to the country. However, in response to the ongoing agitation against Shakib, the government changed its stance.

A senior government official confirmed on Wednesday night that Shakib was advised to scrap his plans to return home due to the current political situation. This situation suggests that Shakib's Test career may now be unofficially over.
