Gopal Halder, Patuakhali: It has become difficult for government employees to buy and eat hilsa fish with the current salary. I myself have been able to eat hilsa fish only once in the last one month after coming to Patuakhali. The price of hilsa is so high that if you eat hilsa every day you have to go without food for the rest of the month.

Deputy Commissioner of Patuakhali Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arefin said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the exchange meeting organized at Badhanhara Hall of Patuakhali Sadar Upazila Parishad on Thursday morning.

He said, 'If fishing can be stopped for 22 days during the main breeding season of hilsa and jatka killing can be prevented, the production of hilsa will increase. This will reduce the price of hilsa and ordinary people will be able to buy hilsa easily.

The Deputy Commissioner also said, 'Government is working to control market prices, but common people should also be aware of their place. We need to invest more in agriculture. With a little awareness, every family can grow their own vegetables at home, even in urban rooftop gardens.'

Patuakhali Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Iffat Ara Zaman presided over the meeting attended by officials of various government departments, civil society representatives, political leaders, public representatives and journalists.
