Jumbangla Desk: If the producers supply enough, from tomorrow Friday (October 18) morning, a dozen eggs will be sold at the retail level at 48 taka and 150 taka.
Aman Ullah, President of Tejgaon Egg Traders Association, said this in a discussion meeting on the market of daily commodities including eggs, broiler chickens, potatoes and onions at the Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) building in Motijheel on Thursday (October 17).
Aman Ullah said that the daily demand for eggs in Tejgaon is 20-25 lakh pieces. On the contrary, corporate companies are supplying only 1 million eggs. Additional eggs have to be collected from different sources.
However, if the producers supply enough, it will be possible to sell Hali eggs at the retail level at Tk 48 from Friday morning. And every dozen eggs can be sold for 150 taka. Accordingly the price will be kept at the wholesale level.
Mizanur Rahman, organizing secretary of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) said, along with wholesalers, Kazi Farms and CP Bangladesh should start selling eggs at a fair price at the consumer level in their retails located all over the country. This will increase the supply of eggs in the market and reduce the price. Consumers will be relieved.
Jalal Uddin, former director of FBCCI, said that no representative of the egg producing companies was present in the meeting despite being invited. That means there is trouble among egg producers. Without arresting them, the officers of the Department of Consumer Protection conducted raids only at the retail level. As a result, the market remained volatile.
