Jumbangla Desk: After the mass movement against the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina started, India limited its visa program in Bangladesh. Which is not fully operational till now.
Spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaswal spoke about the latest status of the visa process in Bangladesh. A journalist asked him about this after coming to the regular press conference of the ministry on Thursday (October 17).
In response, he said, "The visa program is running on a limited basis. Medical and emergency visas are issued from the High Commission. If the law and order situation improves there and the conditions are there to start our activities in full swing, then we will do so."
After the fall of the Hasina government, India stopped this service even though it issued visas to millions of Bangladeshis every year. When the movement against Sheikh Hasina reached extreme levels, India took back the rest of the officials except for the essential officials. After that, when the situation normalized, many returned to Dhaka. But the visa service has not fully started.
On September 30, the Indian Visa Application Center said that visa centers are initially opening in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Sylhet and Khulna. But not everyone will get visa now. Only those who wish to go to India for treatment, will be given priority on an urgent basis. Besides, it is also informed that Bangladeshis will be given conditional visas for the time being.
