Meanwhile, WhatsApp has recently closed about 84 lakh (8.4 million) accounts for not following these rules.
According to the report of the Indian news media Zee News, millions of people use WhatsApp in India like many countries around the world. Hackers repeatedly target Meta proprietary apps due to the large number of users. As a result, the app brings new rules. Recently, Meta has suspended about 84 lakh WhatsApp accounts in India for not following this rule.
Most of the accounts that have been terminated have been terminated for sending spam or automated messages. WhatsApp is working to prevent abuse on the platform with its own security technologies, artificial intelligence, and other technologies.
According to Meta's latest transparency report, WhatsApp blocked the accounts of around 8.4 million users in India in August. In accordance with Section 4(1)(d) and Section 3A(7) of the Information Technology Rules 2021, WhatsApp has taken action against accounts found to be involved in illegal activities or violations of its policies.
According to the report, this ban is mainly through WhatsApp's pro-active detection mechanism. Of these, 16 lakh 61 thousand accounts were closed before any user filed a complaint.
In addition, WhatsApp said that in August 2024, they received 10 thousand 707 complaints from users. They have taken action against 93 of them.
