China would prefer Kamala Harris to Donald Trump as the next US president, a senior member of China's National Advisory Council said Thursday. This is because bilateral relations had deteriorated sharply during Trump's previous presidency, leading to serious clashes.

Meanwhile, Jia Qingguo, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC, a national advisory body on US election issues, said the Chinese government prefers not to comment on the US presidential election. Because they don't want to be accused of meddling in US domestic politics.

Regarding Harris and Trump, Xia Qinguo said, 'I will prefer Harris because of the bad experience with Trump. We don't want to have that experience again. From China's perspective, US Vice President Kamala Harris, who served under President Biden, represents continuity.'

Meanwhile, Xia, director of Peking University's Global Cooperation and Understanding Institute, said, 'Trump, when he was president, was very emotional and spread a lot of bad information about China. Under current President Biden, on the other hand, US policy towards China is more stable and predictable. We are reconnecting with each other. Officials are meeting each other, talking about problems.'

Trump also blamed China for the global spread of the Covid-19 virus. which tarnished the image of the country. Moreover, Trump imposed tariffs on Chinese exports during his presidency. Now he has again threatened to raise tariffs by 60 percent if elected. Which is worrying Beijing as it could have a serious impact on China's economy.
