The US presidential election is just a few days away. Trump's comments at the last moment of the election campaign indicate that if Trump wins the election on November 5, he can make major changes in the US policy towards Ukraine.
Speaking to Patrick Bate-David on the PBD podcast, Trump said Zelensky not only failed to end the war, but was responsible for starting it.
"That doesn't mean I don't want to help him," Trump said. Because I feel so bad for people like that. But he should never have allowed this war to begin. The war is a defeat.
He has often criticized Zelensky during the election campaign. Trump called Zelensky the 'world's greatest salesman'. Because Ukraine has received billions of dollars in military aid since the war began in 2022.
Trump has accused Ukrainian President Zelensky of failing to broker peace with Russia and has hinted that Ukraine may have to cede some land to Russia in a peace deal, which Kiev considers unacceptable.
At a meeting in New York in September, Zelensky presented Trump with his 'Victory Plan' to end the war. Both leaders described the meeting as cordial.
Trump's comments suggest that if he is able to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris in the Nov. 5 election, he may try to cut aid to Ukraine.
