International Desk: According to a report of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), about 4.17 million people in Bangladesh are living below the extreme poverty line and 6.5 percent people are facing extreme and dire situations.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative of the University of Oxford jointly released the report titled 'Global Multidimensional Poverty Index 2024: Poverty Amid Conflict' on Thursday.

It is said to be contributing greatly to Bangladesh's poverty rate and poor lifestyle . Which is 45.1 percent of the poverty index. Education and health factors are also important contributors. Which contributes to 37.6 percent and 17.3 percent respectively.

According to the report, 1.1 billion people worldwide live below the extreme poverty line, almost half of whom live in conflict-affected areas. Eighty-three percent of those living below the extreme poverty line live in countries in Africa and South Asia, further highlighting regional challenges.

An alarming 272 million people in South Asia live in households where at least one member is malnourished. Emphasizes the serious health and nutrition problems that compound poverty in the region.

This latest report by UNDP highlights the urgent need for targeted interventions to identify the root causes of poverty and improve the quality of life of millions of people in Bangladesh and beyond.
