General Secretary of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and Member Secretary of Bangladesh Combined Professional Council Quader Gani Chowdhury said that democracy will not be protected without independent journalism. If you want to establish a democratic state, you must ensure the freedom of the media.

He said these things in an exchange meeting with journalists organized by Metropolitan Journalist Union in Chittagong at CMUJ auditorium.

The leader told the journalists that the media is the main helper of democracy. Journalists are the conscience of the nation, the watchdog of the society and the newspaper is the mirror of the society, the fourth pillar of the state. It should be remembered that if the media is weak as the fourth pillar, then the state system will be weak.

Senior journalists Zahidul Karim Kochi, Moinuddin Quadri Shawkat, Mostafa Naeem, Abdullah Al Mahmud, Mohammad Toha, Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, Majumdar Nazim, Saiful Islam Shilpi, Mia Mohammad Arif spoke at the exchange meeting held under the chairmanship of CMUJ President Shah Nawaz and moderated by Saleh Noman. , Sohag Kumar Biswas, Shahidul Islam, Alamgir Noor, Hasan Mukul, Suplal Barua, Arian Lelin, Amirul Islam, Waheed Hasan Mintu, Mahbubu Rashid, Kamrul Huda, Golam Mawla Murad, Shannewaz Riton etc.

Quader Gani Chowdhury said that factionalism, yellow journalism and information terrorism are dimming the dignity of journalists. Objective, honest, fearless journalism brings good to the country and nation. There will be no compromise on the question of objective journalism. Unfortunately, factual journalism has been overtaken by self-interested journalism. An ideal media is not accountable to any party, group, government, foreign state or agency. Responsibility lies only with the people of the country. We must also remember that the defeat of the media means the defeat of the people. The defeat of the people means the defeat of the state.

He said that those involved in student killings and genocide have no chance to be in politics or journalism or other professions. Because they are the enemy of the nation. Compromising with them means betraying the blood of martyrs.
