Jumbangla Desk: The price of farm chicken eggs has decreased due to increased monitoring of the market by government agencies. On Saturday (October 19) in the capital's retail markets, chicken eggs from a dozen farms were sold at Tk 145 to Tk 150. But even four to five days ago, a dozen eggs were 180 to 190 taka in various retail markets of the capital. Accordingly, the price of eggs has decreased by 35 to 40 rupees per dozen in a few days.

However, it has been seen that eggs are still being sold at a price of more than 155 rupees in neighborhood shops.
This information was obtained by visiting the capital's Mohakhali Kacha Bazar, Rampura and Joarsahara Bazar on Saturday.

I am selling every dozen eggs on Saturday at the rate of Tk 150.' Market participants say that due to increased supply and regular monitoring, egg prices are coming within the reach of consumers. The egg market may become unstable again if supervision is reduced.

He said, 'I bought a dozen eggs on Saturday after a week due to the increased price. This price is very affordable.' However, he also opined that the price of eggs should come down below Tk 150 per dozen.
The Department of Agriculture Marketing recently fixed the 'reasonable price' of eggs. As per the fixed price, the price of each egg is to be 10 taka 58 paisa at the production stage, 11 taka 1 paisa at the wholesale stage and 11 taka 87 paisa at the retail stage (142 taka 44 paisa per dozen).
However, it is still being sold at an additional price of Tk 8 to Tk 13 per dozen at the retail level than the price set by the government.
In a meeting held on the price and supply of eggs at the office of the National Consumer Protection Directorate last Tuesday, it was decided that large egg producing companies and small farmers will send eggs directly to the wholesale hatchery at the price set by the government. Then it was decided in the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Coordination Committee (BPICC) meeting, which consists of entrepreneurs from all parties related to poultry industry, that 15 companies will directly supply 1 million and 2 million eggs to the two wholesale markets of Dhaka, Tejgaon and Kaptan Bazar.
From last Wednesday night, the producer companies started supplying eggs directly to Kaptanbazar. And on Thursday night direct delivery of eggs started in Tejgaon.
Amanat Ullah, former president of Tejgaon Egg Traders Association said, 'Diamond, Kazi, People's and Paragon Group have supplied four lakh eggs to Tejgaon on Thursday. The price of each egg including transportation cost is 10 taka 91 paisa. We sold wholesale for 11 rupees. Big companies promised to provide 1 million eggs per day. If you don't get eggs accordingly, it won't happen. Because every night 15 lakh eggs are sold in Tejgaon.'

On the other hand, on Thursday night, a large producer company supplied seven lakh eggs to Kaptan Bazar. There too each egg is supplied at 10 taka 91 paise. Those eggs were sold at the wholesale price of 11 taka 10 paisa by the traders.
