Sports Desk: This happened for the first time in an ICC competition in T20 format. Not a single ball was thrown. However, the opponent won the match. This is surprising but true. The incident took place in the Group B match of the 2026 T20 World Cup Africa Zone Qualifiers.

The 2026 T20 World Cup Africa Region qualifiers are underway in Kenya. Rwanda-Gambia was supposed to face each other in the opening match. The entire Rwandan team was on the field but the Gambia cricket team was absent. As a result, Rwanda gets a walkover.
ICC did not disclose the reason why Gambia gave Rwanda a walkover . However, Zimbabwean journalist Adam Theo wrote on Twitter that most of the team members could not reach the venue due to paperwork complications. That is why Gambia gave a walkover in the match.
It was not made clear on Twitter what the paper was about. In the post made on Twitter, many say that most of the cricketers missed the flight due to visa complications.
Yesterday, a photo shoot was held with the captains of 6 teams participating in the event. Where hosts Kenya, Zimbabwe, Seychelles, Rwanda, Mozambique along with Gambia captain Andre Jarjuo were present.
Gambia was able to play the match even though most of the team members did not arrive at the venue. Because Article 1.1 of the ICC Law states, a match can be played with fewer or more players than 11 players by agreement. However, a maximum of 11 players can field in the field. If a team is short of players during a match, the match shall continue as long as possible based on the stipulations made before the toss and according to law.
It is believed that The Gambia may not have been aware of the ICC Act. As a result they gave Rwanda a walkover before the toss. Their next match tomorrow is Seychelles.
This is the third time a walkover has happened in a men's T20 International. Of these, Rwanda is the beneficiary twice. Earlier in 2022, they got a walkover in the match against Ghana.
