Jumbangla Desk: Two brothers have been arrested by the Patia Thana police in connection with the shooting and attack on the BNP leader during the anti-discrimination student march in Chittagong's Patia.
On Saturday (October 19) night, they were arrested in separate raids in Patia Municipal Headquarters area.
The arrested are- Muslim Zaman Sabuj (30) son of deceased Nurul Absar of Meherati village of Kusumpura union of the upazila and his younger brother Aktaruzzaman Shakeel (24).
According to police sources, a special team of Patia police station arrested these two brothers by conducting a separate operation based on secret information. Among them, Aktaruzzaman Shakeel publicly shot Awami League leader Liton Barua in an anti-discrimination student march in Patia on August 4.
According to local sources, former whip Samshul Haque Chowdhury's former APS Ejaz's second in command is Muslim Zaman Sabuj. He looked after and supplied Ejaz's Yaba business. His younger brother Shakeel is Awami League leader Liton Barua's second in command. They two brothers reigned terror in the area. Everyone was in fear.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Zayed of Patia Police Station. Nazmun Noor said, two terrorists named Sabuj and Shakeel have been arrested. They have been arrested in three cases including shooting anti-discrimination student marches, vandalism of BNP offices and attempted murder of a Jamaat leader. They will be sent to jail through the court on Sunday. A remand will be sought later for further questioning.
