With this, 9 lakh 89 thousand 310 pieces of chicken eggs have been imported in five consignments from November 5 last year to October 19 this year.


2 lakh 31 thousand 840 eggs of the 5th consignment entered Benapole port yesterday Saturday (October 19) night.

4 million more eggs will be imported from the government's first announcement of 5 million eggs within the next month.


Already 9 lakh 89 thousand 310 pieces of eggs have been imported. To meet the shortage, the government has approved the import of four and a half million pieces of chicken eggs. They will be imported gradually.

Sources of the importing company said that each egg was bought from India at the rate of 5 taka 70 paisa. The import duty of each egg is one taka 83 paisa. All in all, the price of an egg is a little more than seven and a half rupees. In such a situation, the importers have demanded duty exemption on the import of eggs like onions and potatoes.


According to Benapole Custom House sources, 9 lakh 89 thousand 310 chicken eggs were imported through Benapole port in five consignments of egg import from India in the current financial year. An importing company named 'Hydroland Solutions' of Dhaka has imported the eggs.

Shah Alam, representative of the importing company Hydroland Solutions, said that the Ministry of Commerce allowed the import of 5 million eggs within two months. The deadline expired on September 10 last month. Out of this, only two consignments have the opportunity to import about three lakh eggs. Imports are hampered by state conditions. In view of their application for this, the ministry has extended the time for another two months. which ends in November.


He also said that each egg was bought from India at the rate of 5 taka 70 paisa. But each egg has to pay a duty of one taka 83 paisa (including other expenses). If this duty was kept below 50 paisa, the price of eggs in the market would have come down a lot. They have written to the government to waive off duties like onion and potato.


Exporter of eggs is Shree Lakshmi Enterprises of Kolkata. C&F Agent Ratul Enterprises filed the necessary documents at the Custom House for clearance of the consignment of eggs on behalf of the importer.

Traders said that although each egg is imported for seven and a half taka, transportation, labor, wasteage (waste eggs) costs at least three taka more for each egg. Each imported egg is sold wholesale at 10 taka 60 paisa to 10 taka 70 paisa.

 

Masudur Rahman, Revenue Officer of Checkpost Cargo Branch of Benapole Customs, said that the price of each imported egg has fallen to seven and a half rupees including taxation. The first consignment arrived on November 5 last year, the second consignment arrived on September 9 and three consignments of eggs arrived on the 6th, 7th and 19th of this month. Last year, Dhaka's BDS Corporation imported 61,950 eggs from India at the same price.
