Electricity and Energy Advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan said, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) will determine the price of electricity and gas through public hearings, not the government. This decision will come through BERC.
He said this at a seminar on energy organized at a hotel in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
Fawzul Kabir said that the previous government had cheated the people on energy. The previous government had little interest in gas exploration. Rather, they have built power plants citing urgent reasons and increased demand.
The energy advisor said, there is no objection if you want to take the initiative of renewable energy production. However, if you want to sell electricity to the government, you must come through a tender.
He said that the elected government has no power, but we have taken responsibility as an interim government. There is no designated bidder in the ministry now.
Fawzul Kabir criticized the agitation of many people with various demands and said that the season of demands is going on like the season of harvesting rice. But not everyone has the opportunity to accept all demands. If you think this government is weak, you will be wrong.
