Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman has been acquitted of a defamation case filed in Dhaka court for criticizing Awami League at a discussion meeting in London five years ago. Besides, the court acquitted four other leaders of the party from this case. They are BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court judge Arafatur Rakib gave this order on Sunday (October 20).
Tariq Rahman's lawyer Zainal Abedin Mejbah confirmed the matter and said that in 2019, Bangladesh Jannetri Parishad President AB Siddique filed the case as a plaintiff. The court ordered this as no witness appeared in the case for a long time.
