Jumbangla Desk: The sea is becoming turbulent due to the effect of low pressure. In the meantime, the Meteorological Department has asked Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports to display local warning signals.
Cyclone
On Tuesday (October 22), the Meteorological Department's Special Notice No. 1 informed that the clear low pressure over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Andaman Sea area moved west-northwestward and concentrated in the same area (15.2° North Latitude and 91.0° East Longitude). has become low pressure. It was 785 km south-southwest of Chittagong seaport, 700 km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar seaport, 820 km south-southeast of Mongla seaport and 760 km south-southeast of Payra seaport at 6 am today (October 22, 2024). It may move further west-northwestward and intensify into a cyclonic storm.
Maximum sustained wind speed is 40 km/h within 44 km of the low pressure center, increasing to 50 km/h in gusty or gale-like form. The ocean is rough in the vicinity of the low pressure center.
In this situation Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra sea ports have been asked to show remote warning signal number 01. Apart from this, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to proceed cautiously close to the coast until further notice, so that safe shelter can be reached at short notice.
Meanwhile, if the low pressure turns into a cyclone, it will be named 'Dana'. Meteorologists have predicted that the cyclone could make landfall on Friday morning. It may affect Khulna and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh.
