Jumbangla Desk: The anti-discrimination student movement has sought two days to confirm the resignation of the president. This time was taken in the context of hundreds of people protesting demanding the resignation of President Mohammad Sahabuddin, who was elected during the ousted Awami League government.
Anti-discrimination student movement
They have been protesting since 4:30 PM on Tuesday (October 22) at Banga Bhavan, the President's residence.
At 11:30 PM local time, it is seen on the ground, the army is positioned behind the barricade at the entrance of Banga Bhavan. And in front of him, the protestors are chanting slogans demanding the resignation of the President.
They claim that the President is a 'man' of the ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He has 'falsified' Sheikh Hasina's resignation. By means of which the oath is broken, the President is disqualified. He should resign.
Protester Abdul Moin told Voice of America, "The president himself lied about his statement. He said on August 5 that Sheikh Hasina had resigned, which he accepted. Now he told the editor of a newspaper that there is no documentary evidence of Sheikh Hasina's resignation.
Earlier, at 8:20 PM, the protesters tried to break the barricade in front of the Banga Bhavan. At that time, the police members present at the spot stopped them. Police threw sound grenades to suppress the protesters. This increases the tension between the two sides.
It was claimed by the police that some policemen were injured in the attack by the protestors.
DMP's media department DC Muhammad Talebur Rahman told Voice of America, "hundreds of people protested demanding the president's resignation from 4 pm. At one stage they blocked a road in front of Bangabhaban.'
He said, 'When the protestors broke the barricade and wanted to enter Bangabhaban, the police stopped them. A few policemen were injured in the attack of the protestors.
Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, two coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, came in front of Bangabhaban at 11:30 pm. They assured the protesters that within the next two days the President would force Mohammad Sahabuddin to resign. That is, if the President does not resign by next Thursday (October 24), they will also go to the program with the protesters.
Coordinator Hasnat Abdullah said, 'You know the President is the head of the state. In the absence of the Head of State, when he is removed, the Speaker takes the place of the President as per the Constitution. But this post will fall vacant when there is no Speaker.…Conspirator Mohammad Sahabuddin must resign. But if this state is made presidentless before the next president is finalised, non-foreign powers will raise their heads. We will not let that happen.'
"Therefore, on Wednesday and Thursday, I will speak to everyone and make someone the president who will not have any objections. Then I will force Sahabuddin to resign. For this, give us two days', added Hasnat Abdullah.
Coordinator Sarijs Alam said, 'To put someone in an important position like the president, you have to talk to everyone. Such a person should be selected. It will be a loss for the country if we don't win with strategy and lose with emotion in this place.'
As of writing this report at 12:11 PM, after taking 2 days of Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, some of the protestors left but others stood in front of Bangabhaban and continued to protest demanding the President's resignation.
Dr. Asif Nazrul avoided the questions of journalists
Protester Rubel told Voice of America, 'Why does it take time. Do you need more blood? We will not leave Bangabhavan until Chuppu (the president's nickname) resigns.'
