A world filled with the beauty of colorful birds. There is no person in the world who is not attracted by their beauty, shape, variety of feather colors and melodious sound. Among the birds, Tia is popular among all. The natural environment of Bangladesh, especially the capital city of Dhaka, was once full of beauty.

Besides, other green cities were also prosperous. But this bird is disappearing with time. People want to keep these birds by themselves because of power, which is against the principles of nature. As a result, the number of Tia birds is gradually decreasing from the city. About 400 species of birds are found in the world. Among them, seven species of tigers belonging to the Psittacidae family of the Psittaciformes class are found in Bangladesh. Among these, four species of Tia are seen in the city.
Year 2016 I am first year student. I used to roam around the campus of Dhaka University alone in search of wildlife. I ran after the grasshopper. Right after Fajr prayers and in the evening, the campus of Dhaka University was bustling with the call of hundreds of birds. But by 2024, it has largely disappeared.
Not only the campus area, Tiara is disappearing from Dhaka due to unplanned urbanization. Due to lack of food, lack of habitat, lack of big trees, polluted environment and poaching, the number of Tia birds has decreased a lot in Dhaka city. Rose-ringed Parakeet is commonly seen in Bangladesh. Its scientific name is Psittacula krameri . Blue green body and red beak. Besides, the body of the male has pink and black garlands.
They breed between January and July. In Dhaka city, tree-hoppers make their nests in various holes in buildings. The fruiting bird is the resident bird of our country. Although this bird is the most abundant in Bangladesh, it has decreased a lot in the last decade. Big flocks are not seen as before. Because, big trees in the city are decreasing. It reduces the habitat of birds. As a result, there is a food crisis. Along with illegal poaching, cage confinement is gradually pushing this bird towards danger.
Sandalwood is the largest in size in Bangladesh. The Alexandrine Parakeet's name Alexandrine comes from the name of Emperor Alexander. During his time this bird became widely known. Its scientific name is Psittacula eupatria . They roam solitary and in small groups. Commonly eats fruits, grains, seeds, flowers and honey. Their breeding season is from December to April.
In 2000, the IUCN Bangladesh data included the tea in the Critically Endangered list. However, according to the information of 2015, the bird is under Least Concern. In addition to the capital, this bird can be seen in the greater Rajshahi, Bogra, Mymensingh and Faridpur regions. The bird is widespread in South Asia except Bangladesh. Tia lives up to 30 years.
Another species of parrot is Madana parrot (Red-breasted parakeet). The scientific name is Psittacula alexandri . Commemorating Alexander the Great, his army brought this species of bird to Greek territory. Red belly, green body. Shoulders yellow and head grey. Yellow eyes and black band from eye to forehead. The lower bill is black. The tail is purplish-blue and the front of the tail is yellow. The upper beak of the male is dark red and the beak of the female is dark brown.
They also like to roam alone or in pairs. Commonly eats soft stems, fruits, seeds, grains and honey. Their breeding season is from March to June. Builds nests in tree holes. It is the resident bird of Bangladesh. The original habitat of the bird is in the evergreen forests of Sylhet and Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. Besides, they are also seen in the Madhupur forest area of the central part of the country and its surrounding areas.
Still this species can be seen in Dhaka University Campus, Ramna Park, Sherebangla Nagar, Mirpur area. However, the location of reproduction has not yet been found anywhere in Dhaka city. However, in Chittagong there are many large flocks of Tia birds. It is in Sylhet. Basically the mountainous environment is preferred by these birds.
Plum-headed Parakeet scientific name Psittacula cyanocephala . Every year, a flock of red-headed tea or Hiraman tea is seen in the botan tree in front of the Science Factory of Curzon Hall, Dhaka University, usually in September-October when the bot fruit ripens. Apart from Dhaka University, this bird can be seen in Mirpur, Uttara. The bird known as Hiraman in the fairy tale is the red-headed tiya. shouted loudly.
They are found in the forests of central, northwestern and southwestern regions of the country. It is a rare resident bird. The diurnal bird lives alone or in small groups. Commonly eats fruits, grains, flowers, seeds and honey. Makes a nest by making a hole in the bark of the tree. Their breeding season is from January to April. However, the bird is now near-endangered due to habitat loss, lack of food and illegal poaching.
School teachers can play an important role in the conservation of urban tiads. If children are taught at an early age that tiaras are beautiful in the wild, keeping pets in cages is not only against the laws of nature but is unjust and a punishable crime. Then they can grow up and save this beautiful bird of our country. Awareness at all levels is essential for conservation of teak in its natural environment. If we are not aware, we may soon lose the seeds of the country.
