Jumbangla Desk : The members of the local army camp have arrested 4 BNP leaders and activists along with the convenor of the Gournadi Municipal BNP of Barisal on the charge of beating up the businessman after not getting the demanded contribution. Earlier, the victim filed a case against the 4 leaders and activists at Gourandi police station.

The case was filed by AKM Jamil Shikder alias Mithu Shikder (45), a trader of Flaxiload at Torquay Port of Gournadi Municipality and General Secretary of 1st Ward Jubo League late on Tuesday night.

The accused in the case are - Gournadi Municipal BNP convener SM Zakir Sharif (45), municipal BNP member Farhad Sharif (45), BNP worker Nazmul Hasan Mithu (45), SM Sajib Sharif (38). Immediately after receiving the complaint, a group of members of the local army camp conducted a raid and arrested the 4 accused BNP leaders and handed them over to Gournadi police station late on Tuesday.

In the statement of the case, the plaintiff mentioned that accused No. 1 Nazmul Hasan Mithu called the mobile phone used by the plaintiff on the afternoon of October 18 and asked him to come to the army camp. He also said, "When Awami League was in power, you irritated me a lot." If I want to do business in Torquay port, I have to pay 1 lakh 50 thousand rupees. If you don't pay the subscription, you can't do business in Torquay port. Then the plaintiff went to the army camp and reported the matter.

Later, the accused Mithu, his cousin Sajeev, Farhad Sharif, Zakir Sharif entered the house of the plaintiff in Torquay Port area on October 22 at around 8 pm and demanded a sum of Tk 1.5 lakh. When he refused to pay the demanded amount, the accused punched and injured the plaintiff. At that time, when the people around came running on his screams, the accused left saying that they would come again for money.

Gournadi Police Station OC Md. Yunus Mia said that when the plaintiff went to the local army camp to complain about the beating for the demand of money, a group of army personnel conducted a raid on Tuesday night and arrested the accused and brought the plaintiff to the police station late at night.
