Jumbangla Desk: The price of onion has increased by Tk 10 to Tk 15 within a week. Last week, the price of one kg of onion was Tk 110 to Tk 120. Which is now seen to be sold at 130 to 140 taka.

Speaking to sellers and wholesalers, it is said that the supply shortage and the increase in Indian onion prices have led to an increase in the retail price of the product.

Milan Mia, a trader in the Malibag raw market, said that prices have started increasing since the middle of last week. Onion sales are tight in India, and prices have increased there too. There is also a problem with onions coming in the rain. All in all, the price has increased.

Jalal Uddin, the shopkeeper of Shyambazar, said that before winter, local onions run out at this time. As a result, the price increases. On the other hand, even though Indian onion imports are on, they are not falling due to high prices. Indian onion prices have increased by Rs 5 to Rs 7 per kg. The prices will start to come down when the winter vegetables are up.

Meanwhile, the price of sugar has increased by Tk 3 to Tk 4 despite the reduction in duty. A kg of open and packet sugar is being sold at Tk 130 to Tk 135 in various shops. Traders say that the supply of the product has not increased in the market.

According to data from the government agency Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), the price of open soybean and palm oil has increased by Tk 1 to Tk 2 per liter in a week. According to this, open soybeans are expected to be sold at 156 to 160 taka in the market. However, open soybeans are being sold at Tk 170 to Tk 172 per liter and palm oil at Tk 165 to Tk 167 per liter. Bottled oil is being sold at Tk 160 to Tk 165. Soybean of 5 liters is being sold at 800 to 810 taka.

Even two weeks ago, the egg market was volatile. A dozen eggs were sold at Tk 170 to 180. Due to fixing the price in the current market, the price of the product has come down from 155 to 160 taka. However, this price is 8 to 12 taka higher than the price set by the government.

On the other hand, coarse rice Bri-28 is being sold at Tk 60 to Tk 62 per kg and miniket at Tk 74 to Tk 80 per kg. Broiler chickens are being sold at Tk 190 to Tk 200, golden chicken at Tk 300 to Tk 320.

Although most of the vegetables are above 80 rupees, the prices of some have decreased this week. Round eggplants are being sold at Tk 100 to Tk 140 per kg. Apart from this, gourd 100 taka per kg, patol, jhinga, chichinga, dharans and dhundal 70 to 80 taka, cucumber 60 to 70 taka depending on the quality, papaya 40 to 50 taka, kachurmukhi 70 to 80 taka, kachurati 80 taka, tomato 160 taka, carrot 160 Tk. Beans are being sold at Tk. 120 to Tk. 140.

Lemons are being sold at Tk 30, bananas at Tk 40, chillies at Tk 200 and potatoes at Tk 60 per kg. Cauliflower and cabbage are being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 50 per piece, long gourd at Tk 60 to Tk 70 per piece.
