Jumbangla Desk: There was a clash between two groups in Maishadi Union of Chandpur Sadar Upazila over the non-invitation of the district BNP president to a health meeting. At least 20 people were injured on both sides.
The clash took place on Friday (October 25) afternoon at the Meishadi Bazar mosque after the Milad.
The injured are Ward No. 4 Jubo Dal President Monir Hossain (35), volunteer leader Salim Bepari (30), Mazharul Islam (18), Jubo Dal member Kabir Munshi (26) and autorickshaw driver Shaheen (28). Among them, Kabir Hossain, who was seriously injured, has been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
Locals said, a group of BNP General Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Swapan along with Moishadi Union BNP organized prayers for the well being of District BNP President Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik. BNP affiliated organizations and several leaders were not invited in that event. That is why the leader of another group Salauddin went to BNP office with the leaders and activists from Ward No. 1 of Shilandia.
There was a discussion with the two workers about not inviting them. At one stage both sides clashed with indigenous weapons and sticks. At least 20 people were injured on both sides in the incident.
A BNP worker named Monir said Swapan and Khokon along with other leaders are people of district BNP adviser Azam Khan. They attacked us.
When BNP leader Salahuddin was called to inquire about this, he did not pick up. Union BNP leader Swapan of the other group said, I am at the police station. I will talk later.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station Bahar Mia said that the police visited the spot. However, no one has complained about it so far. Legal action will be taken if complaints are received.
