Jumbangla Desk: All the hurdles in the trial of journalist Sagar-Rooney's murder have been cleared, said AF Hasan Arif, Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. He said that all the obstacles in the trial of the journalist Sagar-Rooney murder case have been cleared. Soon we will see the killers involved in this incident identified and prosecuted.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the Best Reporting Award and Crab Night 2024 event at the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) auditorium on Friday (October 25).
The program was presided over by CRAB President Kamruzzaman Khan and CRAB General Secretary Sirajul Islam moderated the program. DMP Commissioner Mainul and Director of Law and Media Wing of RAB Lt. Col. Munim Ferdous and many others were present as special guests in the event.
AF Hasan Arif said to the journalists, "I hope that we will get justice for Sagar-Rooney's murder this time." The obstacle that was there, I believe that obstacle has been removed.
If you (journalists) speak up, we will get justice for Sagar-Rooney's murder. For example, we can see the trial of the criminals who committed the torture and crime in the last 17 years. Through your (journalistic) camera, pen, all the torture will come out.
He said, Dhaka center used to be the center of popular uprising and revolution. But this year's revolution is a mass tide in the real sense. Not only in Dhaka city, but also in fields and villages, mass tide has come. Many people think that the revolution of mass coup is over. I want to say, the revolution is not over yet. People want reforms, they will continue.
The advisor of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives also said, I heard that you were supposed to hold this event on July 23. But what he can say today, he could not say on July 23. Because an invisible tape would be placed on the television screen and in your mouth. There is no longer that costep. You can say whatever you want.
This advisor said, the special feature of this popular uprising is that the popular wave has also come in the village. As a result, union level members are also on the run. Because the people of the village were fed up due to their torture. They do not have the courage to stand in front of these people.
The local government adviser also said that after 16 years of torture, many accidents happened when the door was opened and the mass tide came. But nothing like that happened, by the grace of Allah.
DMP Commissioner at the event. Mainul Hasan said, we are working shoulder to shoulder with CRAB members to establish peace in the society. Sometimes the policemen have to face criticism due to misunderstandings while suppressing crime. We expect journalists to report objectively. We always want to strengthen the bond through mutual trust and cooperation.
Before this, a cake was cut and the foundation anniversary of Crab was celebrated. After the speech of the guests, the chief guest presented the crest to the three journalists who won the 'Crab Best Reporting Award 2024'. The award winners are - Mahmudul Hasan Nayan of Prothom Alo, Nazmul Saeed of Independent Television and Jasim Uddin Mahir of Dhaka Post. They won in 3 separate categories.
