At the heart of Islam are the Five Pillars, which outline the essential practices and beliefs of the faith:
- Shahada (Faith): The declaration that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet.
- Salat (Prayer): Muslims pray five times a day facing Mecca.
- Zakat (Charity): A portion of one’s income is given to those in need.
- Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan): Muslims fast from dawn to dusk during the holy month of Ramadan.
- Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca): Muslims who are physically and financially able must undertake a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime.
