Jumbangla Desk: Army members will set up temporary camps in every housing from Sunday to prevent terrorism and extortion in Mohammadpur of the capital.
Major Nazim Ahmed, deputy captain of 23 East Bengal, gave this information in a press conference at Basila army camp on Saturday night.
He said to the residents of Mohammadpur, "Don't panic and give information." If given the information, the army will reach the spot.
Major Nazim said that 45 people were arrested in raids against extortionists and terrorists in Dhaka Udyan, Chand Udyan and various housing societies. They have been handed over to Mohammadpur police station.
Stating that 197 people have been arrested so far after receiving the army magistrate, he said that 18 firearms, 261 rounds of bullets, 19 types of drugs, one grenade, 80 indigenous weapons were recovered.
Meanwhile, the main accused was arrested in the operation of joint forces in connection with the sensational robbery at the supershop in Bachila on Friday. His name is Md. Aslam alias Rubel alias Alam (32).
Mentioning that 27/28 juvenile gangs have been identified in Mohammadpur, he said that Geneva camp has been raided six times so far. A lot of indigenous weapons have been recovered from there. Geneva camp accounts for 30 percent of all arrests so far.
About 15 to 16 godfathers and leaders are among the detainees. They are involved in various crimes including extortion, robbery, drugs. The army will continue this operation to keep the local residents in peace.
