Jumbangla Desk: A young man named Zahid Hasan was thrashed by the locals on Friday night in Shewratala of the municipal area on charges of trade and extortion in Madhupur of Tangail. He is the plaintiff in the case filed against 117 people including the former agriculture minister in connection with the attack on the anti-discrimination student movement and is the son of Chanwar Hossain of Malauri village in the municipal area.

Locals said that Zahid came to the area on Friday night and introduced himself to the DB police to a shopkeeper. At that time, they demanded payment by fearing electric shocks and lawsuits. When the people of the area questioned him, his identity was revealed. At that time the locals beat him up and handed him over to the police.

OC (Investigation) Russell Ahmed said that he was handed over to the court on Saturday under Section 151. It is known that Zahid Hasan claimed to have been injured in the anti-discrimination student movement on September 25. Abdur Razzak, two former upazila chairmen and two mayors, including 117 named people and unknown 300/400 others filed a case in court.

Allegations have been made that he got bail from various defendants in that case. There is confusion about the basis of the case. The participants in the August 4 movement said that the location from which Zahid claimed to join the procession in the case and the location where he claimed to have been injured are baseless. On August 4, a sit-in program was held at Madhupur Shaheed Smriti College and Rani Bhavani Model Government High School.

They had no position in front of the hospital mentioned in the case. Apart from this, the upazila administration, police station, upazila health complex or the agitators could not confirm any information that Zahid was injured in the anti-discrimination student movement. The agitators also said that Zahid's case and extortion charges are embarrassing them. This act of his is contrary to the spirit of anti-discrimination student movement. If anyone wants to take money or any other benefits from someone by changing the identity or name of the coordinator, it is also requested to catch him and hand him over to the police.
