Jumbangla Desk: Salman F Rahman is one of the top debtors of the country. Being the owner of Beximco, the country's first industrial group, and a former private investment adviser to the Awami government, he had a powerful influence. And using this power, he took a loan of 41 thousand 769 crores from seven public and private banks of the country for 15 years with the help of various government ministers, bank chairmen and directors. Details from the report of Barta24-

In taking loans, he used names of various companies including 17 established companies of Beximco Group. But even though he benefited from these business establishments, he was irregular in paying the debts . As a result, at some point, each of his loans became overdue and defaulted. But actually no official information is available about the exact amount of his loan.

According to unofficial sources, out of the seven banks that took loans, 4 were taken from government banks. More than half of the total loan was taken from these. And the remaining three are taken from private banks.

Out of this, government bank took Tk 23 thousand crore from Janata, Tk 1 thousand 830 crore from Sonali Bank, Tk 1 thousand 409 crore from Agrani Bank and Tk 965 crore from Rupali Bank. And among the remaining three private banks, the amount of loans taken from National Bank was Tk 2,952 crore, IFIC Bank was Tk 11,000 crore and AB Bank was Tk 605 crore.

However, apart from this, he took loans from private Prime, Shahjalal Islami and Southeast Bank but the amount is not known. Attempts were made to contact the Central Bank officials regarding these matters but they did not respond.

'Currently the bank is suffering from liquidity crisis due to taking a loan of Tk 23 thousand crore from Janata Bank alone. This is disrupting customer service. A single customer credit limit was not observed in giving loans.'- said an official of the central bank who did not wish to be named.

It is known that despite having 17 established companies of Beximco Group, he has given loans to various companies including them. People from different walks of life started talking after his unusual loans and non-payments came to light in the media. But he was out of touch as no bank or financial institution from the regulatory body spoke against it.

In 2010, Salman took over IFIC Bank overnight. After that, the amount of loans taken in the name of various institutions is about 11 thousand crores. Beximco Limited, Beximco Pharmaceuticals and Beximco Communication Limited's debt in Agrani Bank stands at 1 thousand 409 crores. Beximco's stakeholder Bloom Success International Limited has a loan of Tk 836 crore with the National Bank. Apart from this, the bank has Beximco Group's loan of Tk 823 crore and Beximco LPG's loan of Tk 1293 crore. Beximco Group has a loan of Tk 600 crore in private AB Bank.

It should be noted that after the fall of the Awami League government in the mass coup on August 5, many leaders of the party went into hiding, but he could not go. On the 13th of the same month, he was arrested by law and order forces. After that he was remanded in stages.
