Former DMP Commissioner Farooq was detained at the airport while going to Bangkok

After going to the exit immigration counter of the airport, he was interrogated by the immigration officer . After that he was not allowed to board the plane.

A source in charge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport confirmed this to Dhaka Post.

According to sources, Ghulam Farooq was going to Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG-340. His visit was personal. However, the immigration police did not allow him to leave the country. He is currently with the immigration police. It has not yet been decided whether he will be handed over to the police station or returned home.

Ghulam Farooq is a citizen of Bangladesh. But he is said to have a US green card.

Joined Bangladesh Police in 1991 as Assistant Superintendent of Police in 12th BCS (Police) Cadre. He took charge as the 35th Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on October 29, 2022.


He retired on September 30, 2023 after a long service of 32 years and 8 months. Anti-Corruption Commission-ACC has filed a complaint against Khandakar Ghulam Farooq for 3000 crores of corruption.

Khandkar Golam Farooq was born on October 1, 1964 in Ghatandi village of Bhuyapur police station in Tangail district. His father is deceased Khandaker Haider Ali and mother Mosammat Fatema Begum. He holds BSc (Agriculture) with Honors from Dhaka Sher-Bangla Agricultural University and Masters in Political Science from Asian University of Bangladesh.
