Jumbangla Desk: Honorary Fellow of Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and President of White Paper Drafting Committee. Debapriya Bhattacharya said, everyone is talking about reforms. We are talking about infrastructure. But I am not thinking about the poor people. We also have to think about what will happen to the landless farmers, what will be the salary of the garment workers.
He said these things in a dialogue titled 'Dialogue for Democratic Reconstruction: Economic Policy Context' organized by the Center for Governance Studies (CGS) at the conference room of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) yesterday.
Devapriya Bhattacharya said, when the state becomes auspicious, the biggest role to be played is those of you who play a role in creating employment. So why did the upper class people fail to create a democratic system? We have to correct the mistakes made by the people of Uchmarg to the new generation. Real wages should be looked at, fair prices of products should be determined. Our economic system will determine when we go for institutional reforms or elections.
He said, it is not a normal government. This government came only three months ago. There has been a breakdown in the state apparatus. Due to which new expectations have been created. We have been discussing the discussed policies for a decade and a half. Why are they not implemented in a decade and a half? The question to them, why you could not implement? Politicians are now businessmen, and bureaucrats have now become politicians.
This Honorary Fellow of CPD said, wrong information on national income, inflation, household survey, export income has been provided in the past year. Judiciary has been influenced by interest groups.
Complaints about theft were not taken without the permission of the local leader. Trade license would not be obtained without DNA test. Money was printed talking about development. After such a system a new government took over. Change will not come overnight. Sheikh Hasina had no election promises, no accountability. He also said, if we think that the interim government will solve everything with the help of foreigners, if we live in such a false world, then it is a mistake to make a revolution. Here everyone has to fulfill their own responsibility.
