He said that bordering states must be vigilant to prevent infiltration from Bangladesh into India.
This information was reported by the Indian media NDTV in a report yesterday Sunday (October 27).
According to reports, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma today said that 138 people trying to enter India from Bangladesh have been detected in Assam and Tripura in the last two months and border states must be vigilant to avoid such infiltration.
Speaking at a press conference last Sunday, Vishwa Sharma said, “Every day for the last two months, one or a group of foreigners have been apprehended by the Border Security Force in our state. Basically, there are people who are still coming into our country despite the best efforts of the BSF because of the faulty border."
Stating the importance of an active role in preventing illegal immigration from Bangladesh, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said Assam and Tripura are already working closely together. He urged the West Bengal government to cooperate with the Border Security Force and initiate the process of identifying the infiltrators.
Sharma further said that Tripura and Assam are currently carrying out identification of foreign nationals in coordination with BSF. In this process, sometimes joint operations, sometimes by BSF alone, and sometimes by state police are involved in identification.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said every border state government should be vigilant and work closely with the BSF. He further said that if West Bengal also joins this effort, it will become a well-organized and regular process.
Himanta Sharma also added that it was assumed that people from the Hindu community in Bangladesh would try to enter India due to "instability", but in reality, infiltration of Rohingya Muslims has been detected in most cases.
