Jumbangla Desk: 60 students have fallen ill after taking HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer in a school in Borhanuddin Upazila of Bhola.

The incident took place at Genda Secondary School on Tuesday (October 29) at noon. Meanwhile, the health department said that this may happen many times due to panic in giving the vaccine.

According to school parents and hospital sources, HPV vaccination of students started in Genda Secondary School of Pakhiya Union of Borhanuddin Upazila on Tuesday morning. After the vaccination of 162 students was completed, the students suddenly fell ill around noon with various symptoms. Later, teachers and family members admitted them to Borhanuddin Upazila Health Complex. Out of these 60 students, 5 were admitted to Bhola Sadar 250 Bed General Hospital for advanced treatment.

In a moment this news spread in the surrounding upazila. There is panic among students and parents in this incident. However, the doctors said that there is nothing to panic about. Meanwhile, two separate committees have been formed by Bhola Deputy Commissioner in the case of students falling ill after taking vaccinations to prevent cervical cancer. Besides, most of the sick students have recovered and returned home.

Dr. Assistant Director of Bhola Sadar Hospital. Sheikh Sufian Rustam said that due to psychogenic reasons, one person has become sick. And Deputy Commissioner Azad Jahan said, there is nothing to panic in this incident. A medical team has been constituted to ensure proper treatment of sick students.

Incidentally, 524 educational institutions of the district are running this vaccination program simultaneously. Under this vaccine program, free HPV vaccination will be given to out-of-school girls aged 10 to 14 years studying in class 5 to 9 or equivalent. In Bhola, 1 lakh 21 thousand 580 girls have been targeted for free HPV vaccination for the first time.
