Brahmanbaria East border top drug lord and inter-district gambler Manik (45) has been arrested by the police. He was arrested by Akhaura police station from Singarbil area of ​​Vijaynagar upazila in the district on Wednesday afternoon.

Manik is the son of Phul Mia, a resident of Kashinagar village in Singerbil Union of Upazila. Awami League vice president of the same union. There are 18 cases and general diaries against him in various police stations including Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station, Akhaura and Vijaynagar.

The OC said that Manik is the top drug smuggler and inter-district gambler listed by the Brahmanbaria East Police. In addition to drug smuggling, there are cases against him under explosives law including theft, robbery, extortion, attempted murder, fighting, sabotage.

He said that during the anti-discrimination student movement, Manik took direct part in the attack on common students and crowd in Vijaynagar. At that time, he led various controversial events of the Awami League party.

There is also a case against him for attacking and snatching the blankets from the students during the distribution of blankets among the needy in the Akhaura Railway Junction Station area on December 2, 2020.

OC Mohammad Abul Hasim said that he was sent to jail by the court in the afternoon.
