A tram fell off a line in a commercial area in the Norwegian capital Oslo on Tuesday and crashed into a nearby phone and computer store. Police said four people were injured in the incident.
The shop was badly damaged but no casualties were reported. The tram driver and three others sustained minor injuries.
It is reported that the tram derailed and hit a nearby Apple showroom. The passers-by were shocked by the suddenness of the incident.
The head of police operations there, Anders Ronning, told AFP news agency that three people inside the tram and one outside were injured in the accident. However, none of the injured were seriously injured.
Police initially said there were at least 20 passengers in the tram. However, some passengers fled the scene before emergency services arrived.
The affected shop has been evacuated. However, rescue team officials said the tram will not be removed until experts determine the stability of the building's walls.
An eyewitness told daily newspaper Varden's Gang, the scene was unbelievable. Andre Norheim said, 'If everyone comes out of this accident unscathed, that means someone is watching over us. Because it gave a faint glimpse of a mighty accident.'
The police investigation agency is awaiting assistance from the Norwegian Safety Authority to determine the exact cause of the accident. However, police have officially named the tram's driver as a suspect, suspecting that over-speeding may have been the cause of the accident.
According to Oslo's tram and subway train operator Sporvien, the city's tram system carries around five million passengers a year.
