On Wednesday (October 30) at 1 o'clock in the morning, a road robbery took place near Pathar Par Bridge of Mauna Union of Sreepur Upazila on the Kaliakair-Mauna road. Before this, the locals said that every night after 10 o'clock in the night near the bridge of that road, there are frequent incidents of robbery.
At that time of the night, a gang of 7/8 robbers wearing shorts and masks attacked and vandalized the car of Shariful Islam Sarkar (42), a member of the convening committee of Gazipur District Labor Party. The robbers hacked and injured his car driver Mainul (30) and looted the cash and gold ornaments from them. On Thursday (October 31) at 10 am, Shariful Islam Sarkar filed a written complaint at the Sripur police station.
Shariful Islam Sarkar is the son of deceased Abul Hossain of Maona Union (Maona Madhyapara) village. When the robbers did not ask the driver to hand over the car keys to Moinul, they hit him on the head with the intention of killing him, and when he returned, his right palm and wrist were cut. He is under treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Shariful Islam Sarkar said that he and his associate Salauddin Ahmed Sohag were returning to their home in Mauna, Sripur, from Kaliakor at around 11:30 pm after business work that day.
At 1 o'clock in the night, when they reached the place near the Pathar Par bridge on the Kaliakair-Maona road, 7/8 robbers with domestic weapons placed the pickup car on the road and barricaded their jeep (No. Dhaka Metro-G-13-2107). At that time, 5 of the robbers wearing shorts had no clothes on their bodies and their faces were covered with towels. Two of them had their mouths open. The robbers cut the front and back of the car with a ram and broke the gas. Meanwhile, a robber driver cut and injured Moinul when he refused to give the car keys to him.
The robbers looted gold chain, gold ring, gold baselet from them. Later the dacoit member asked them to give what else they had. Threatened to kill Tadar if he did not pay, they gave the cash of Tk 135,000 to the robbers. Later, the driver was given first aid at Mauna Chowrasta Alhera Hospital and the doctor on duty of the emergency department referred him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur police station Zainal Abedin Mondal said, received a complaint about road robbery. Police are working on it. Action will be taken after investigation.
Afzal Hossain Khan, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Sreepur-Kaliakoir Circle, said to the journalist that he advised the robbery victims to file a written complaint at the police station.
